Junee Shire Council

Junee Shire Council is committed to consulting young people. A Youth Council operates as a 355 sub-committee of Council and considers issues such as youth services, activities, crime and safety.

Junee Youth Council, will be made up of young people ages 12-24 who live in the Junee Local Government Area. Junee Youth Council provides young people with the opportunity to express their views on youth issues and advise Council, as well as implement their own projects.

Youth Council expects to be effective in promoting a positive image of young people and being active participants in the community. Some of the projects developed could include Youth Week festivals, information on local/regional youth services, participating in community activities such as Australia Day, Seniors Week, National Trust Heritage Festival, Clean Up Australia Day, and organising youth activities and events. In addition, knowledge of grants and funding would enable specific projects to be completed.

Youth Councils have been a forum for the voice of young people in Local Government areas for many years. The Riverina has youth councils in a number of shires, including Tumut Shire, Temora Shire, and Wagga Wagga City. In addition, the Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils (REROC) has a representative youth council, YouthROC. Junee has local young people representing Junee who attend the YouthROC meetings and have been involved in the planning and promotion of YouthROC Summer Camp.
