The Synod’s Ministry with Children and Families is involved with resource and program development, leadership development, research and strategy. Our focus is to resource congregations to take the faith children already have seriously, and to offer ways to explore and express how God is working in their lives. We work with leaders of congregations and presbyteries who are creating a space and place where children can discover the richness of our faith and life in community.

Children’s Ministry Network Australia

This website is the result of a cooperative venture of the state based Children’s Ministry Networks across the country. Each network is comprised of representatives of the broad spectrum of Christian denominations and mission organizations and as such is not owned by any one group. These representatives are leaders of children’s ministry within their organization or denomination.

The vision is to have a public presence on the web for each state network combined with a national portal. Bookmark this site to keep up to date with local and national information and use this site to strengthen your ministry with children and families.

Godly Play Resources

With the opening of her first “children’s house” in 1907, Maria Montessori initiated what has become a worldwide movement. This tradition honors the child’s natural sense of the sacred and seeks to provide a richly structured environment in which the religious potential of a child may freely develop.

Inspired by his advanced Montessori studies with Sofia Cavaletti in 1971, Dr. Jerome Berryman returned to Houston to develop a comprehensive religious education curriculum based on the pioneering work of Montessori and Cavaletti. This approach to religious education has come to be known as “Godly Play.”

Godly Play Resources was set up by Jerome W. Berryman in order to supply certified information and materials for the Godly Play teaching method. In this booklet you will find all sorts of information, from the materials we offer to contact information and upcoming conferences. But first, a little about ourselves, our home, and Godly Play.

The Center for the Theology for Childhood

A non-profit educational organization, The Center for the Theology for Childhood, was incorporated in December, 1997, with the purpose of providing high quality consulting, teacher training, and research. Our offices are located in the Rice Univeristy area of Houston, Texas, at Christ the King Lutheran Church.

The Center’s vision is to create a positive, long-term approach to religion in the world by teaching the Christian religion to children in a way that deeply centers them and keeps them open to others and the future in creative ways.

The Website of Godly Play in the UK

Godly Play is a method of telling Bible stories, or presenting parables or lessons about religious traditions.

It invites listeners into the stories and encourages them to connect the stories with personal experience.

Godly Play is a non-coercive way to encourage children to move into larger dimensions of belief and faith, through wondering questions and open-ended response time.

It is a way of preparing children to join in the worship and life of their congregations as they develop a deeper understanding of stories, symbols and rites.

Godly Play is one of several variations of the Montessori tradition of religious education and has been developed in the United States by Dr Jerome Berryman.

Faith at Home

The Faith at Home Web site is a labor of love by one person: Barbara Laufersweiler. A happily married at-home mom of two young sons, Barbara is over 40, lives in the southern Great Plains of the USA, is Episcopalian, and the designer, owner, and maintainer of Faith at Home.

Barbara creates nearly all of the content and finds all of the resources herself, and codes it all up myself, too. Occasionally she’s able to find a great article that fits well into her vision for this site and I reprint it on Faith at Home with permission. She also creates and publish the seasonal flyer of the same name, Faith at Home.Link: Faith at Home
