This is the tenth year of ABC Radio’s Heywire. It’s time for celebration and it’s also time for change! The all new Heywire is still about young people aged 16-22 from regional and rural Australia having their say about the things that are important for them.

What’s new is that this year young people can have their say in any format that works for them – whether it be in text as in previous Heywires, or in audio, pictures and moving images. All the details are on the web at www.abc.net.au/heywire/

Heywire is very much about being passionate about issues and ideas and communicating them in such a way that people will listen. It’s not about being a technical wiz as we at the ABC will be producing the winning stories for broadcast.

Winning stories will be selected from each of approx 41 ABC regions around Australia. These stories will be broadcast either on national ABC Radio, ABC Online, ABC2 or ABC TV.

Each winner will be invited to take part in the all expenses paid Heywire Youth Issues Forum, held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra in February 2008.

Please let your students know so they have the chance to take part. Your students can submit their entry directly online or print off the entry form and post it in.
